About the Programme
The MEC3 programme is a specialist training programme for marine engineers who meet the entry criteria in terms of prior learning and sea-time requirement for this STCW watchkeeper’s certificate.

Entry Requirements
- Candidates are advised to check Maritime New Zealand’s requirements for the holders of a MEC3 Certificate which are outlined on the MNZ website; www.maritimenz.govt.nz. The New Zealand Maritime School can review candidates qualifying sea-service and pre-sea training suitability and will conduct an assessment of pre-sea training skills to determine suitability.
- Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English must provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 (with no score below 5.5) or equivalent. Prospective students may be required to undertake formal assessment of English language ability, at their own expense, where the interview panel is unable to satisfy themselves as to the English ability of the student.
