Marine Engineering Programmes
Marine Engineer Class 1 and 2
The Marine Engineer Class 2 and Marine Engineer Class 1 is an advanced training programme. It provides the specialist knowledge plus analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to allow progression to command engineering and technical departments on a foreign-going ship.
Marine Engineer Class 3
The MEC3 programme is a specialist training programme for marine engineers who meet the entry criteria in terms of prior learning and sea-time requirement for this STCW watchkeeper’s certificate.
Marine Engineer Class 4 (NZ Validity)
The MEC 4 programme is a specialist training programme for marine engineers who meet the entry crtieria in terms of prior learning and seatime requirements for this NZ Valildity watchkeepers certificate.
Marine Engineer Class 5 (NZ Validity)
The MEC 5 programme is a specialist training programme for marine engineers who meet the entry crtieria in terms of prior learning and seatime requirements for this NZ Valildity watchkeepers certificate.
Basic Fire Fighting
Topics include shipboard fire-fighting, fire hazards, search and rescue in enclosed and smoke-filled spaces, use of portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets, fire-fighting team procedures and practice, and emergency damage control procedures.
Advanced Fire Fighting
Topics include leading emergency parties, analysing risk and developing tactical emergency strategies, and taking overall charge during emergency operations.
Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
Topics include survival craft operation including launch,recovery, and management of craft and survivors after abandoning ship.
ISM
This short course introduces the fundamentals of the International Safe Ship Management regime which today’s commercial vessels operate under.
Stability for Watchkeeping Marine Engineers
This short course introduces the fundamentals of stability for marine engineers. Please note this course is currently being developed as a result of the introduction of STCW10 and will be offered from 2013.
