MIT's School of Culinary and Hospitality Studies (CHATS) is a unique restaurant and hotel training school. Learning at CHATS covers all aspects of hospitality and catering, and students 
learn from professionals and also gain industry work experience. As a result, our graduates are work-ready and valued additions to the workforce.
Established in 1993, our purpose-built facility combines the latest technology with lecturers whose up-to-date experience in the industry, backed by academic expertise, take students' training beyond the confines of theory and classroom into the real world.
We have a licensed bar and restaurant, barista training cafe, bakery, food production and training kitchens, demonstration rooms, hotel and motel bedroom suites, conference facilities and a reception area.
Our programmes offer a dynamic combination of industry knowledge and practical job skills which are taught in a friendly and supportive environment. We also offer City & Guilds International qualifications as well as teaching New Zealand 's own nationally-recognised qualifications.
Teaching staff retain strong links with the industry. Our reputation as a provider of catering and hospitality training is exceptional, and the success rate of graduates obtaining employment in their chosen area is very high.
Another unique feature of our training school is our network with high schools, associations and private providers, both nationally and internationally, all inter-relating for the benefit of you, the student.
