Located in the heart of the largest Pacific population in New Zealand, the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is committed to the current and future success of Pasifika students and to playing a significant role in the development and advancement of our Pasifika communities.

This commitment is encapsulated in the the 2008 - 2013 MIT Strategic Plan. The institute's commitments and accountabilities have been developed within the Pasifika Development Plan for implementation and monitoring and are closely aligned to the key strategic priorities for MIT.

The Pasifika Development Office is responsible for the implementation of the Pasifika Development Plan goals and objectives, and providing effective leadership alongside the MIT Pasifika Community Advisory Board and the MIT Pasifika Community Forums and Fono Tagata Pasifika. Our aim is to provide opportunities through which we can collectively work with our Pasifika communities to achieve our mutual goals and aspirations and to fulfil MIT’s core vision to "Transform people and communities through learning"

The Pasifika Development Plan encompasses the following goals and objectives;

  1. to contribute to successful Pasifika student achievement that reflects demographic responsibility.
  2. to develop, enhance and maintain relationships with Pasifika communities in the Counties Manukau region.
  3. to provide a framework for Pasifika leadership at all levels.
  4. the establishment of a Pasifika Centre on campus.
  5. to develop, enhance and maintain a collaborative “partnerships” with tertiary education institutions in the Pacific region.
  6. support for Pasifika music, business and culture
